Scrubber Installation Project – Maersk Santana at Dubai Drydocks
As the Cost Control Superintendent, I had the privilege to be part of the scrubber retrofit project onboard Maersk Santana, carried out at Dubai Drydocks. This was a technically challenging yet rewarding experience, focused on aligning with IMO 2020 regulations by installing an exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS).
My role involved close monitoring of budget compliance, change order management, and cost optimization throughout the project. Coordinating with shipyard teams, vendors, and onboard technical staff, I ensured transparent reporting and cost-effective execution despite tight deadlines and scope changes.
The retrofit included major steel modifications, system integration with the existing engine room setup, and compliance with class and environmental standards. Through strong collaboration and proactive commercial controls, the project was completed on time and within budget.
The Maersk Santana scrubber retrofit stands out as a successful example of cost-efficient planning in a high-stakes retrofit environment.
