Estimation and Production Must Work Together!

 

Working as an Estimation Engineer in ship repair, I’ve learned that good estimates don’t happen in isolation. They rely on teamwork between commercial, production, and operations - not just at the start but all the way through the job.

When the production team shares clear updates about progress, extra scopes, and actual site conditions, it helps the estimation and commercial teams prepare variation orders properly and keep costs under control - which owners always appreciate.

At the same time, a realistic estimate gives production a clear plan for manpower, materials, and timing. This avoids surprises that lead to delays, extra costs, or disputes during final accounts.

Ultimately, we’re all on the same side - estimation, commercial, and production working together to protect profit and deliver good results for the client.
